Rock N Roll

Cotton On Cardigan - Country Road Tank - Cotton On Bandage Skirt - Target Tights - Vintage Boots - Mimco Studded Cuff

Wow my hand looks really warped, it’s not easy taking a photo of your own hand! Last night Boyfriend, a close friend and I went out for dinner and a drink. After dinner we went to a little cafe/bar I’d been meaning to go to but never had. It was a great place, quirky and a bit rock’n'roll. Suited my new Mimco studded cuff well!

I’m having the worst time coming up with a new name for my business. I can’t think of anything original, everything I like is registered or trademarked already. It’s becoming a huge problem because I’m obsessing over it and not doing any real work. Speaking of which, it’s the end of the financial year. I won’t go to my accountant til the end of August because I don’t have time to sort through all that paperwork right now. But I do need to get organised! I think I will buy a big financial year diary for my desk where I can scribble all my important notes. I’m using loose notepaper at the moment and they inevitably end up in the bin by mistake. Oops!

Thank-you And Goodnight

Thank you to everyone who responded to my questionaire! I have received many more respondants than I was expecting so I’m absolutely thrilled. Tomorrow I am off to Malvern to conduct the survey in person! Should be interesting.

Today I went back to Business Victoria with one of the ladies in my course. We finished faster than we anticipated so spent the rest of the afternoon walking in the area and visiting the op shops. I found another divine glass bowl (did I mention I’m obsessed with glass/crystal bowls? they’re so handy for knick-knacks!), a cream lace fitted top and the cutest little 90’s deadstock dress! The shop where I got the dress had several of them, all exactly the same, brand new, $10 each. What a bargain! It’s navy blue with a kind of forget-me-not floral pattern. I can’t wait to wear it. If I had more money I’d have bought some more to sell in the etsy store.

Another recent purchase is the Mimco studded cuff which I picked up on sale from $169 down to $50. I couldn’t resist, it brings out the rock star in me.

Off to make a cuppa!

Little Help?

As I have mentioned before, I am currently undertaking full-time study. The course I am taking is Certificate IV in Small Business, and as part of my requirements, I need to get 100 surveys filled out! If you would like to donate five-seven minutes of your time, I would be forever appreciative! But remember to please answer the questions honestly and without bias.

Thank you.

When The Wind Blows

Dotti Blazer - American Apparel Pullover - Bonds Chesty Singlet - Insight Jeans - Converse Shoes

A very lazy, last minute outfit because I slept in and was running late. Went down to business victoria today to do some market research with some ladies from my course. 2 hours was just not enough time, I have to go back on Friday, boo! The outfit pics are a bit “posey” but it was very windy and I had my timer on so I just had some fun.

Afterwards I went to see a business centre about leasing an office when my course ends. The centre is really nice, but offices aren’t very readily available so I hope and pray with all my might there will be one for me in August! Still trying to think of a new business name, it’s really difficult to encapsulate everything I want to portray into one word. It will come to me, though.

The Bad Times

Talk about the bad times!

The last 48 hours for me have been a nightmare. Between minor issues (like the fact that my Topshop order arrived and three out of the four items didn’t fit, a pair of socks I bought had a hole in them, the dress I was having tailored wasn’t done properly…), and major issues (like the business name I have registered, been trading with and reserving for the last year that I was planning to use for my retail store has been trademarked right under my nose) I am feeling very deflated and heartbroken.

Fighting the people who stole my name and logo is an option but requires money and time, not to mention the emotional strength I simply know I don’t have for such a potentially long, drawn out battle.

Not a very creative outfit today, but I made sure to wear the one Topshop item that did fit.

Op Shop Coat - TopShop Tee - Forever New Pants - Dorothy Perkins Flats

The major drama of losing the business name to a trademark is that I have spent over $500 on registration fees and marketing tools which are now useless. On top of this, I have to think of a new business name as part of the requirements for my course AND I need to register it all ASAP. I could have bought a pair of Louboutins for that money!

On the bright(er) side, today was my first day driving without my P plates! Yes I am 23. Go team .05 BAC!

All Apologies

I haven’t been updating very often, my course is sucking up all my energies! I’ve worn some outfits I really liked but I’ve usually been running late on my way out and so tired on my way in that I get changed before I remember to take photos.

Cotton On Cardigan - Kenji T Shirt - Insight Jeans - Mimco Scarf & Watch - Sportsgirl Bag & Earrings - Payless Flats - Dinosaur Designs Bangle

This was my weekend outfit - literally, I wore it both days because I was too lazy to bring a change of clothes with me when I stayed at Boyfriend’s. Saturday night we went to our favourite little noodle place in St. Kilda for dinner, and then today we went out for a birthday lunch. The only changes I made to the outfit was a belt around the t-shirt and heels instead of flats.

After lunch Boyfriend needed to pick something up on Chapel St, so I tagged along and ended up picking something up for myself! Some cute brogue/wingtip type flats from Scooter on sale down to $60 from $100. They are a black patent / black matt leather mix. I wanted the black / white mix but they’d sold out of my size, oh well!

Also, the Etsy seller that I bought the polkadot dress from (who gave the wrong measurements in the listing) refunded my money so I used that to pay for the alterations as kitten suggested. I pick it up from the tailor tomorrow.

I really need to be taking more photos of my outfits or I won’t learn my style patterns! I will try really hard to do each day this week.

Another Online Shopping Debarcle

Wow it just isn’t my good luck for online shopping anymore! I have officially put myself on a ban until further notice as nothing seems to be going my way.

The latest debarcle is the navy blue polka dotted dress I ordered a few days ago. Lightening fast shipping - but the seller misrepresented the size in the listing and it is simply enormous! It is such a cute dress so naturally I am devestated. I will probably end up trying to resell it! (If anyone wants a gorgeous navy blue polka dotted dress in about a size 12-14AU leave me a comment!)

Boooo!

Limbo

So I feel like I’m floating around in fashion limbo right now.

My beautiful ASOS skirt never arrived (it’s been a month since I ordered it) and I’m waiting for them to get back to me with more information. My Topshop order hasn’t been shipped out yet (it’s been over a week since I ordered it) although they have charged my card. Is there something funny going on in the UK? Other online orders I’m waiting on are some books from Amazon (expected delivery date is a whole month from date of shipment?!) and my new polka dotted dress from Etsy (which I only bought a few days ago).

Online shopping sure is fun but when your parcels don’t arrive on time (or ever) it’s very disheartening!

I have run out of coathangers! A few years ago I bought 45 wooden coathangers (not including skirt/pants hangers) when I was changing from metal - and I have run out in a serious way! I will pick some more up in the next few days but I’m starting to get very concerned over where I will actually put them because I have no room in my cupboard as it is. I don’t really want to get rid of anything, either. There are a few pieces I don’t wear but I do want to keep them. I’m scared if I pull them out of the cupboard and put them into ’storage’ I’ll forget about them. Out of sight out of mind, right?

Lastly, I am feeling very silly over the amount of bright coral coloured tops sneaking their way into my wardrobe. I just bought my fourth, and there is a mere 1 or 2 shade difference between it and the others I already have! Oh well, I guess they match my hair…!

Winter Lace

Dotti Blazer - EF Collection Dress - Supre Singlet - Target Tights - RMK Shoes

Spent the mid-day with Boyfriend getting brunch at our favourite little cafe on Glenferrie Rd in Malvern, then went over to Chapel St so Boyfriend could run an errand. I went into American Apparel but didn’t find anything that made me want to part with my dollars so we left not long after.

I included the middle picture because it was hard to see the lace detailing on the dress from the full-body shots. Really happy with this outfit, I’ve been putting off wearing this dress because I felt it was too summery, clearly forgetting how good white dresses with black tights can look! The blazer really completed this outfit and gave it a more polished look. I don’t think it would have worked with a different kind of jacket and it was too cold to go without. I will definately wear it again.

Happy Friday the 13th!

I didn’t end up wearing a dress this week because I couldn’t bring myself to face the weather - even in wool blend tights! This outfit took me from school all day through to the movies tonight with Boyfriend.

Cotton On Cardi and Scarf - Bonds L/Sleeve Tee - Jeans West Velour Pants - Dorothy Perkins Flats - Mimco Tote and Headband - Selfmade / Sportsgirl Necklaces

I usually forget to include my bag in the pictures I take - this is my school bag that I coveted for months before I had an excuse to buy it… then when I finally got into the course the bag was on sale at the Mimco outlet store in Bridge Rd, Richmond. Yippee! I love the stud detailing on it, gives it a little pop while still being fairly simple.

Last night I bought another dress from Etsy. I can’t control myself - I need tops, not dresses! But this was so cute and inexpensive that I couldn’t resist!

I know my outfits are never very inventive or interesting, I still struggle being artistic when choosing my clothing and that is something I am trying to explore through this blog project. I hope you’ll stick with me while I nut it out!
